Time for a New NOW: Find Food That Can Help Improve Your Cholesterol

8-minute read

Happy New Year! It is here, 2023! Very exciting times ahead. Are you ready to feel happier, healthier and more aware of your life? I know I am!

NOW is the time to make a few resolutions, right? In the past, I have tried to move mountains at the beginning of the new year. That never seemed to work for the long haul until I started to break down the truth of what I wanted and what I really needed. It doesn’t matter what you tackle as long as you REALLY want changes.

In my younger days, I knew nothing about healthy lifestyles and meaningful, personal habits. Oh, sure, I was disciplined. I was in the convent for 10 years, but I didn’t make changes for myself that supported my health needs. NOW I encourage changes because trying to be healthy is a lot easier than trying to get healthy again. Okay:

Let’s start with a focus on the Physical Plane body. Small steps to last a lifetime are not THAT challenging. Much better/easier than big promises that only last a few weeks.

Mental Plane (mind) power is found in focused knowledge. Let’s focus on specifics and create a new NOW. It is my prayer that we take self-care time to support our Physical Plane body while it is healthy and strong to naturally avoid the need for medications, a doctor visit, or some type of hospital episode.

In recent years, high cholesterol has become a common issue among adults. The decline in the quality of food is a huge factor and the lack of easy access to “real” food has contributed heavily to the rise in heart disease cases all over the world.

If there were a healthy and natural way to help maintain heart health and cholesterol, would you be interested in learning about how? I do not want to hear that I need to lower my cholesterol with a drug because once you start, it’s almost impossible to stop.

Luckily, there are many types of food, right from nature, that are ready to impart their gifts. I am suggesting some different food options that are not only good for you but can also help to improve your cholesterol levels.

Do your research and create your own healthy NOW while options are available. Most struggle to change but the moment you have a health episode, you will be forced to change, and the options may not be that positive. Change NOW and attend to issues before they become episodes. You always have the power to choose. I am listing a few beneficial cardiovascular health options here. There are many food choices that will lower cholesterol naturally. If you are interested in digging deeper into this right NOW, this link will provide more information and options for you to get started today. The site called Entirely Health has relevant and informative content. Here is a sample of their material that I feel you will find helpful that you can go to after reading today’s blog.

Olive Oil

What kind of oil do you use in your cooking? Plants that contain fats have a healthy effect on human health, and olive oil is no exception. Olive oil has amazing antioxidant properties that can help to protect you from damage caused by LDL cholesterol. Instead of using the corn-based cooking oils everyone always used in the past, use extra virgin olive oil at lower temperatures. You can eat it mixed with garlic and spices to get a mega dose of helpful vitamins and absorb it as a powerful anti-inflammatory.  You can even use it to make a delicious salad dressing. I love to mix it with Apple Cider Vinegar.

Fatty Fish

Do you like seafood? One great way to lower your cholesterol is to incorporate a good number of fatty fish meals into your diet. Fish like salmon, tuna, mackerel, and trout are very high in Omega 3 fatty acids to help the body reduce the inflammation that usually helps to cause blockages of arteries and veins. If you don’t really like to eat fish, you can choose to seek out an alternative source in the form of over-the-counter pills, but they are less effective than eating fish oils and fats in their natural and unprocessed forms. A freshly made tuna salad with some celery can provide a lot of health benefits.

Avocado

This fruit is another plant with delicious plant fats that help you. These raise the amount of HDL, which is the good cholesterol in the blood. This type of cholesterol helps to prevent and lower the risks of various cardiovascular diseases like stroke, or even heart attack. These fats can also help to improve arterial elasticity. Avocado can be added to a variety of foods to embolden the flavor, and you can even add some freshly sliced avocado to some frozen fruit for a delicious and brain-healthy smoothie for your morning breakfast.

I recently read that you can freeze your cut-up avocado. I’ve not tried it though! When I was in Florida with my mom, we lived through Hurricane Ian. My mom’s neighbor had a beautiful avocado tree that dropped some 150-200 avocados during the hurricane! He begged everyone to come and take 30 or 40 home because they were going to rot in the front lawn! It was wonderful to have them and give them to the family! He also said you can cut them, remove the center stone, scrape out the avocado and fill a baggie to freeze. We ate them!

Every step you take to become more aware of making healthy choices moves you closer to a healthy NOW. Once you get into this, your body will NEVER want you to go back to those poorer, less healthy choices. Be a champion NOW and when you look back in a few weeks, months, or years, you will thank your true self for giving you the power to change your NOW.
